North of Frauenfeld in Thurgau lies the Kartause Ittingen. The former monastery complex with its time-honored walls is committed to the lived values of the monks of that time, even long after its original use: hospitality, care, culture and above all self-sufficiency are part of the hotel's credo.
The Kartause Ittingen is lined with a garden steeped in history, whose operators have been dedicated to the cultivation of roses since the Middle Ages. From this wealth of experience, the largest collection of historic rose varieties in Switzerland has grown up to this day: Around 250 different varieties and over 1,000 specimens bloom in every conceivable color.
At Kartause Ittingen , the focus is on sustainably and locally produced food. With the lived zero-kilometer philosophy, all ingredients in the kitchen are either grown in the own vegetable and herb garden or sourced from the immediate region. This allows guests to enjoy food that tastes good and a garden setting that is pleasing to the eye.
In collaboration with Hortiplus, a seed variety garden has also been created with the aim of harvesting seeds of valuable cultivated plants, reseeding them and making less common and disappearing varieties known. This is an important contribution to the preservation of biodiversity and, not least, meets current nutritional and climate trends.
