Herbal paradise at 1500 meters above sea level

Over 450 different types of herbs now thrive on Mount Rigi. The aromatic plants have now taken such a central role in the concept that they even adorn the name of the hotel - Kräuterhotel Edelweiss.

In 2008, hosts Gregor and Gabriela Vörös took over the prestigious hotel on Mount Rigi. It quickly became clear that regional products should play an important role. Gregor, a self-proclaimed druid, soon discovered his passion for herbs, which led to over 450 different types of herbs and 60 types of berries now being lovingly cultivated on the Rigi. It is remarkable that far more than the usual Swiss herbs thrive at an altitude of 1,500 meters above sea level. The aromatic plants have now taken such a central role in the concept that they even adorn the name of the hotel - Kräuterhotel Edelweiss.

Good things from our own production

Everything that does not grow in the 2,500 m2 garden is sourced from farmers and producers in the region - or sometimes fished out of one of the lakes at the foot of the Rigi. Much of the produce is homemade: from vinegar (made from kombucha) and colorless cola (made from a secret blend of seven herbs) to bread baked in a stone oven and the numerous tea and spice blends, jams and chutneys. The Vöröses are always growing something new and are enchanted by the taste explosions of the oyster leaf, the fresh Weggiser Kefe or the Japanese clover.
